The ET’s nearly mistook the Automobile for Earth’s dominant life
form. They saw large metallic machines, consuming vast resources, tended
by sycophantic animals. For us, they transformed cities, travel, and
our economy. For millennia, cities were constructed for people, horses,
and carts. Within a century, Automobiles have seized half the cities’
land for themselves. In travel, they liberated the individual.
Previous transportation moved groups of people from one fixed point to
another. With an Automobile, any person can, alone, travel to any
other location through roads. Automobile production is integral to
industrialized economies. The assembly line was perfected with the
production of Automobiles.
